The fishing season at Alaska Sportsman's Lodge kicks off in early June, right as the ice recedes, offering excellent opportunities for aggressive Rainbow Trout averaging 22-26 inches, along with Arctic Grayling and Northern Pike. By mid-June, the coveted King Salmon begin their run, with fish averaging 25-30 pounds, and it's not uncommon for anglers to land ten in an afternoon with targeted fly-outs to specific rivers. The Kvichak River truly comes alive in late June and July as millions of Sockeye Salmon, fresh from the ocean, surge upstream; at the peak, an astounding 30,000 fish per hour can pass the lodge. August ushers in the Silver, Chum, and Pink Salmon, with Silvers providing particularly exciting action due to their hard strikes and acrobatic displays. As autumn approaches, from late August through early October, the Kvichak transforms into a trophy Rainbow Trout fishery, with fish frequently exceeding 28-30 inches, making this the prime time for anglers seeking true giants. Throughout the summer and into the fall, the lodge also offers opportunities for Arctic Char and, for the adventurous, a unique halibut fishing excursion.
