Ken Tutalo splits his year between the technical dry-fly waters of the Upper Delaware and Catskills in spring and fall, and the sight-casting flats of Tampa Bay in winter—a rare mastery of two completely different fishing worlds.

At a Glance
Ken Tutalo operates Baxter House River Outfitters from Roscoe, NY, splitting his guiding year between two distinct fisheries. From April through November, he specializes in fly and spin fishing across the Upper Delaware River system and its tributaries—the Beaverkill, Willowemoc, East and West branches, and the Neversink—targeting Brown Trout, Brook Trout, Smallmouth Bass, and Common Carp. His freshwater approach ranges from early-season streamer fishing and spring hatches to technical summer dry-fly work and autumn Blue Wing Olive season. From November through April, Tutalo relocates to Tampa Bay, where he guides sight-casting trips for Snook, Redfish, Spotted Trout, and Tarpon across the shallow estuaries and mangrove backcountry. This seasonal migration allows him to offer year-round premium angling in two of North America's most rewarding fisheries.

My guiding year is a tale of two distinct worlds: the pristine trout waters of the Upper Delaware and Catskill region, and the sun-drenched flats of Tampa Bay, Florida. From April through November, I'm on the rivers, chasing trout in the famous Upper Delaware system and its tributaries like the Beaverkill and Willowemoc. Spring brings the excitement of early hatches and streamer fishing as the rivers clear. Summer transitions to technical dry-fly fishing during prolific hatches, and the thrilling pursuit of Smallmouth Bass and Carp in the warmer waters. As autumn arrives, the Blue Wing Olive season offers fantastic dry-fly action, and the pursuit of large Brown Trout with streamers becomes a prime focus. Then, from November through April, I shift my operation south to Tampa Bay. Here, the shallow estuaries and mangrove-lined back country come alive with Snook, Redfish, Spotted Trout, and Tarpon, offering a completely different, yet equally rewarding, angling experience.
