My guiding year on the Salt River and its tributaries is dictated by the seasons and the behavior of our resident trout. While the Salt River is a freestone river, subject to spring runoff, the prime float and walk-and-wade season kicks off in July and runs through October. This period offers the best combination of stable water levels and active fish. The Greys River, a more remote and peaceful option, is best fished from late spring through early fall, with summer offering excellent insect hatches and sight-fishing opportunities. The Snake River, while not directly guided by Altitude Outdoors, is a year-round fishery with peak action often occurring in spring and early fall, driven by its robust hatches and healthy population of native cutthroat.
