Peterson's Point Lake Lodge operates a focused, ten-week season from July through September, a tight window designed to maximize the prime fishing and wildlife viewing opportunities in the Northwest Territories.\n\nJuly and August are the heart of the fishing season, when the trophy lake trout are most actively feeding in the clear, cold waters of Point Lake. This period offers the best chance for anglers to pursue the giants of the lake, with opportunities to break personal bests and even challenge the lodge's 58-pound record. While lake trout are the primary target, the feisty Arctic Grayling also provide excellent sport, particularly in the evenings or in the nearby tributaries.\n\nAs summer transitions into autumn, the focus shifts slightly, though fishing remains a key activity. This time of year is particularly renowned for its spectacular barrenland scenery, with vibrant fall colors blanketing the tundra. It's also prime time for wildlife viewing, as caribou herds begin their migration through the area, offering incredible photographic opportunities. The extended daylight hours of summer give way to darker nights, increasing the chances of witnessing the magical aurora borealis, making the late season a unique blend of fishing, wildlife, and celestial displays.
