Fishing methods and approaches

The fishing season at Wedge Hills Lodge is dictated by the migratory patterns of its prime quarry, the Atlantic salmon, and the robust presence of resident trout species. The season kicks off with the brook trout and lake trout, which are available throughout the lodge's operational period. As summer progresses, the focus shifts to the arrival of the Atlantic salmon, with their fresh runs beginning around the end of July and continuing through September. This period is considered prime time for salmon anglers, offering the best chance for aggressive takes and strong fights as the fish move upstream. The sea-run Arctic char also become a target during this late summer and early fall window, providing a unique angling experience in the northern waters.\n\nThe lodge operates with a clear emphasis on fly fishing, and their approach is deeply rooted in sustainable, catch-and-release practices for all species. The unique geography of the George River, with its numerous rapids and 30-mile stretch of territory exclusively for lodge guests, ensures an uncrowded and immersive experience. Each day, guests are guided to different pools, maximizing their chances of encountering active fish. The season generally runs from early summer through the fall, aligning with the salmon runs and the availability of other species.
